A huge thanks to GoSun Stove for sending me a GoSun Sport Pro Pack to test out! As always, my opinion of cool, useful outdoor cooking tools is 100% my own.

Thoughts
A couple of things:
- I definitely think it’s worth it to upgrade to the Pro Pack. I loved having a carrying case specifically for the stove and accessories. I also used the mini baking pans quite frequently and found them super handy, especially when it came to clean up. Of course it’s also helpful to have a second cooking tray, as you can cook something with one and then after taking it out, you can cook something else without having to empty the first one and clean it. This makes it easier to make more goodies!
- Being able to bake things in the wilderness is a game changer. Want a freshly baked cookie for dessert? No problem. How about muffins for breakfast? Again, no problem. Obviously these things are not must haves while in the great outdoors (or maybe they are) but it is super nice to be able to have them.
- I’m all about the gourmet camp meals so I think this is a super fun way to create new meals at camp. It’s also helpful if you have a bigger group because you can use this to cook something while you use your grill or propane stove to cook something else.
- The ability to cook using only the power of the sun is incredibly cool and also incredibly useful. If you run out of propane or you have no more juice left on your batteries, then here you still have a way to make something good to eat. It’s incredible what the sun can do.
- This thing stays remarkably cool to the touch while cooking. This was one of my favorite aspects of the stove because you don’t have to worry about someone accidentally bumping into it and burning themselves.
- The GoSun Sport is convenient to hold and can be carried with one hand when it’s folded up.
- During the Summer when it’s hot out and I really don’t want to turn on my oven and heat up my house, I would definitely use this instead if I wanted to make something which would normally require my oven, think cookies, muffins, brownies, potatoes, etc.
Notes:
- I would typically line the cooking tube with foil for easier cleaning.
- I liked cooking things using the silicone baking trays, especially things like cookies. When I used the baking trays, I just put some cookie dough in each one and poof–cookies. They do get a more rectangular shape from the trays but they’re still good (of course!).
- Cooking times will vary depending on the amount of sunlight you have and what you’re cooking though this thing can cook even if it’s not super sunny (it just takes longer).
Some recipe ideas:
- Stuffed Mushrooms: pull the stem out of mushroom caps, fill with cheese, herbs, etc.
- Chicken Sausage: thinly slice. Would be great with onions and bell peppers too.
- Zucchini Fries: thinly slice zucchini into strips, season well, oil lightly. Top with parmesan if desired.
- Muffins: make some muffin batter, add to the silicone baking trays and put in oven.
- French Toast dippers: cut toast into strips, dip into whisked eggs and vanilla. Bake. Serve with fresh fruit and syrup.
- Pancake dippers: make pancake batter, pour into silicone trays. Bake. Serve with syrup.
- Baguette Pizza: get a thin baguette, cut lengthwise. Spread on pizza sauce and your favorite (cooked) toppings like cheese, pepperoni, etc.
- Potato Hash: cut up potatoes, bell peppers and green onions. Season with garlic powder, salt, pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.
Once you get the hang of using it, it’s really easy to use. Just put your food in the cooking tube, put it in the cooker and check on it occasionally until it’s done. It’s pretty awesome to be able to bake some cookies while you’re eating dinner so you can have a fresh dessert when you’re finished!
Making a successful meal out of this thing really only requires you to get the hang of it and learn how to tell when things are done cooking. Steam is one good indicator as is smell. I noticed once I started smelling the food that it was often just about ready!
There is nothing like smelling freshly baked cookies in the great outdoors.
All in all, I like having the option to cook with the stove and I’ll definitely be bringing it with me camping in the future! It’s definitely getting it’s place in #TheBurrowHT, my Teardrop trailer!
